Fine lines are an annoyance that everyone faces sooner or later. As your body ages, it is natural to start noticing fine lines and wrinkles beginning to form around your face. Many patients come to us looking for a wrinkle treatment or solution to help reduce and prevent those fine lines. There are several things you can do to help prevent fine lines from forming in the first place, as well as several options for wrinkle treatments.
What Causes Fine Lines?
Wrinkles are caused by the gradual loss of elasticity in the skin as you age. As your body ages, the skin’s collagen layer loses its ability to stretch and keep its shape, which contributes to the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. Other behaviors can also increase the appearance of wrinkles. For example, spending a lot of time out in the sun without wearing sunscreen contributes to fine lines and wrinkles because the UV light damages the skin. Smoking also accelerates the skin’s aging process and increases wrinkles.
Preventing Fine Lines & Wrinkles
Preventing wrinkles is something that many people are concerned about. There are several basic things you can do to help prevent and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. First and foremost is protecting your skin from sun damage and using a daily moisturizer to ensure your skin is protected and healthy. Dry or sun damaged skin reduces your skin’s ability to heal, causing fine lines to form faster. Reducing or quitting smoking can help improve the appearance of your skin and reduce the risk of future wrinkles.
Skin Treatment Options
Even if you do everything in your power to prevent the formation of wrinkles, it is impossible to completely prevent signs of aging. Not every wrinkle treatment works the same, there are several options for treating and reducing fine lines. Juvéderm® is a dermal filler with hyaluronic acid that is used to smooth lines and wrinkles by injecting it under the skin. Botox® Cosmetic is another option to inject into the skin to relax the muscles and eliminate wrinkles. Additionally, laser treatments like Fraxel® are used to smooth the skin’s appearance.
