Unless you happen to have a miracle cure you’re not sharing, women (and men) start to show their age at some point after 40 years old. It’s not a crisis. The spots and wrinkles are simply the effects of living a full life. If you are concerned about how well your skin will fare after you are over the hill, there are a few tips to help.
Wear Sunscreen
It might seem obvious to wear sunscreen in the Summer, but the Winter sun and wind can be just as damaging. UV rays can still damage our skin when it’s cold and cloudy out. A simple way to get the protection is to make sure your daily lotion or moisturizer has a minimum of SPF 15.
Lose the Dry Skin
- Don’t use hot water, it will strip your skin of naturally moisturizing oils that help to prevent wrinkles and fine lines. Lukewarm water is better for your skin and still gets you clean.
- The flaky skin is probably clogging your pores, right? Exfoliate once to twice a week for clearer, softer skin.
- After washing, a daily moisturizer can replace the oil your skin naturally produces and is the simplest wrinkle treatment. Applying a daily moisturizer, along with exfoliating, can reduce dry patches and aid in preventing fine lines.
Strengthen Skin, Hair & Nails
- It is important to moisturize your face, but the rest of you needs moister too. Using body lotion, daily, can make skin more elastic. If you had a significant weight loss or have looser skin from age, doing simple toning moves will naturally tighten skin. If the skin is loose because of dramatic weight loss, other methods, like surgery, are available.
- Hair can easily become brittle and vitamin deficient if washed with harsh cleansers or too often. Consider reducing how often you wash your hair and using a shampoo that does not contain sulfates. Washing your hair every other day, maximum of three times a week, allows hair to build up natural oils for strength. Over time, your scalp will adjust to the new routine and reduce the amount of oil it produces daily.
- Your nails can get a lot of nasty stuff underneath them and can be brittle if care is not taken. If you love your long nails, or would like them to strengthen, make sure to keep them dry and moisturized. Also, taking Biotin has been known to enhance nail strength and growth.
